Gu once fell out of the three-dimensional world, flattened to zero thickness and completely forgot who he was and where he came from. But, sometimes, images of another world, much more complex and beautiful, would appear before his one-eyed gaze. To dull the vague feeling of intense longing and loss, he began to think about how to keep these visions in his mind. Gu decided, moving back and forth, left and right across the plane, to outline lines with the tip of his flat nose and fill in the gaps between them with colour. The space around him was expanding due to the fixation of his coloured memories. He intuitively moved from one square he created to another and, changing direction at the points where the lines intersected, continued to weave his simple geometric patterns.
When the entire plane became one large work, Gu had an epiphany. He reduced his length and width to zero and, becoming a point object, punched a point hole in his two-dimensional space and flew out into the three-dimensional physical space of our Universe.
